EDUC 6713-Week 3 Blog Post: Carrying Out Your GAME Plan

Reflecting on my GAME plan, I am reminded through our learning resources that, we as teachers, “are one of the biggest factors in providing access to learning resources in a way that is sensitive to the individual and cultural needs of our students. We have to ensure that all students, whatever their backgrounds or abilities, have equitable opportunities to use all of the technology resources available in an interactive classroom with an atmosphere that respects students and provides ample opportunities for students to build on and extend their knowledge and skills,” (Cennamo, Ross, and Ertmer, 2010).

The Goal of my GAME plan is to implement new digital tools into the classroom to further engage my students in their learning. In addition, increase my knowledge of technological advances in order to better serve my students. In order to carry out my plan, there is a variety of resources than can be used. Beginning at school, my IT specialists as well as other teachers are resources that will aid me in carrying out my goals. In addition, the South Carolina Business Education Association, the National Business Education Association, the South Carolina Middle School Association, ISTE, NETS are all valuable resources to help me carry out my plan. Attending conferences, conducting research on their websites will give me the ability to learn the new digital tools I would like to implement into my classroom. At conferences, I will be able to collaborate with other business teachers to gain further knowledge.

Taking the step of being a member of the South Carolina Middle School Association as well as the South Carolina Business Education Association is a step in the right direction of carrying out my GAME Plan. Again…a work in progress!! :)

  1. Farena,

Good for you for joing the educational and business associations. Have you been able to attend any conferences or make connections with resources?

    Sounds like it's going well.

  2. Hi Sherry,

Being a member of those associations, I do get emails as well as newsletters full of resources, upcoming trainings, etc. Due to budget cuts in our district, I wasn't able to attend any conferences last year. The only way teachers could attend conferences, we had to pay for it with our own money. Prayerfully, things will turn around soon and I will be able to go to one of the conferences in February.

    Thanks for your comments!

  3. Farena,

Where in South Carolina do you teach? I'm in Bluffton (mainland Hilton Head)!

Have you tried grants for the conferences? There are bunch of them out there for professional development! If there's one you're just dying to attend, I'd recommend that route - don't think our money situation in SC will be turning around any time soon! :)

  4. Farena,
Since funding is an issue for all of use this website may be useful for professional collaborating and communication.
Linkedin (www.linkedin.com) is a wonderful site that allows you to make connections with others in the business world and possibly in your same field.

I find David Warlicks 2 Cents Worth Blog wonderful to keep abreats of new technologies and ideas.

The Kim Komando website is asuper site with free tips and downloads... http://www.komando.com/

I know that conferences are wonderful for professional development but since we are all in the same (sinking) boat of budget cuts, we need to seek alternative methods for professional growth.

  5. Deana,

I teach in Berkeley County (the Moncks Corner Area). I agree with you on the money situation in South Carolina. The conferences I want to attend each year are the EDTECH and the Business Education conferences that are in Myrtle Beach. I will defintley look into the grants for conferences. Thanks for the head's up.

  6. Joy,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I will definitely use those sites! Yes, you are right that we are all in a "sinking" boat. Our district has professional development days and we attend classes, however many of those classes are not beneficial to my content area. The majority of the time, they are refreshers.
